Poetry for Sharing
SUNDAY, APRIL 19 4:00-5:00 PM
April is Poetry Month! Former English teacher Linda Saarnijoki, who led the Memoir Writing class in March, is turning her talents to poetry. Whether we “like” or “hate” poetry, understand it or are mystified, each of us knows at least a couple of poems that we liked and remember or that have meaningful associations for us. Here’s an opportunity to share your favorites with others and hear about theirs. The structure of this class will be simple: each person will read aloud to us all a favorite poem and then say a few words about why they like the poem, what they like about it, maybe why it’s meaningful to them. This is most definitely not a college course in literary analysis: it’s about reading and talking about poetry for the simple pleasures of it. When you register, you will be asked to send in the poem you want to read and say something about; then a day before the class, you will receive via email a packet of all of the poems. We may not get to talk about all of them, but you will then be able to enjoy them on your own. If you don’t have a poem you want to contribute, no worries; come to the class anyway and enjoy what others have offered.

Watercolor Demonstration

Local artist Doris Ingram will demonstrate how she makes her magic with paint and creativity. She will start with a blank canvas and an idea and show us how she ends up with a beautiful finished product. Doris is also a wonderful cook and taught the very popular Perfect Pie Crust class in March.
Landscape 101
MONDAY, APRIL 20 4:00-5:00 PM
Gardening 101 and Gardening 201. Led by Carrie Chalmers. This first class will be an armchair tour of inspirational gardens from around the world and locally. An opportunity for us all to think about the beauty of the natural world and how wonderful it will be to get back outside to enjoy it.
The second class on April 27th will be a more practical class applying some of the principles of landscape design as demonstrated in the first class. It is not necessary to attend both classes.
Carrie Chalmers has lived in Weston most of her life. She has a landscape design firm and in her spare time grows vegetables, raises sheep, and spins and knits at Quoyburray Farm in Weston.
Landscape 201
MONDAY, APRIL 27 4:00-5:00 PM
Learn basic principles of garden and landscape design with Carrie Chalmers. Using photographs, Carrie will outline some basic design concepts, share favorite plant selections, cover common mistakes and answer questions from the audience.
This second class will be a more practical class applying some of the principles of landscape design as demonstrated in the first class. It is not necessary to attend both classes.
